Project Scope: This proposed building is to be multifunctional, with a pleasing entry into a foyer with room for displays two offices and a large (6,000+ square foot) Multi-Purpose room.  The MPR will have full audio visual capabilities, concrete floor, 12’ x 12’ rollup door to allow for bringing in large farm equipment and animals.  It will have a seating capacity of 400+ people.  There will be storage for tables and chairs

  

·         A & T paid frontage fee to county.  City refused to accept capacity use fee for water sewer connection. 

·         Approval of CD from A&T was given to Designer 06/30/07.  Designer submitted project to DOI 09/24/07.  10/18/07 DOI comments on CD received 10/26/07.  Designer will meet with A&T by 02/9/08 to address DOI comments. 

·         We met with the designer 2-21-08 to review progress on developing design for water/sewer connections with the city/county mains in the street.  He is to report back by 2-25-08 for approval to proceed and be ready with all paperwork for the city/county for approval by 04-15-08.

·         We now have to go through the City of Greensboro Total Review Commission (TRC) because we will be attaching to the city’s water main in the street.  While TRC review is being done by the City we will respond to all DOI questions. We are delaying this until we are sure we can get bids and into construction within 6 months of DOI final approval.

·         Designer reported City would like to know if A&T Administration will apply for annexation as declared previously. 

·         Decision made – no annexation.

·         Meeting held with the City to discuss TRC on 04/30/08.

·         Initial soils testing work performed at the A & T University Park by a Soils Scientists in January 2009.  Report is being evaluated before making a commitment to continue with requesting a Septic System permit from the County and having system design completed to obtain the permit

·         Placed on-hold awaiting determination of funds availability for further septic system design.

Project Scope: Barnes Hall, the University’s principal biology teaching facility, will be extensively renovated to upgrade laboratory facilities, address current and anticipated enrollment capacity needs, and meet fire safety codes and Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.

Advertise Date was 10/21/07

·         Bid opening was 12/04/07.  All alternates except GC-D, GC-9, and MC-1 were accepted.  Apparent low bidder was Bar Construction Co. with a bid of $5,192,800. 

·         Notice to Proceed was issued 3/31/08; Actual work began on 4/4/08.

·         Final utility equipment installed.  All AHUs received w/o 6/29/09 but 3 of the flush in wall units for the Lobby would not fit correctly.  These units are being replaced; delivery date as of 10-/28/09 is received by 11/06/09.  The openings will be covered for inspection purposes and the units will be installed when they are received.  The remaining AHUs were installed by 8/15/09 and ready for final inspection by SCO scheduled 11/09/09.

·         GC has completed project cleanup on the all floors.  

·         Relocation and installation of equipment from Hines Hall will start 11/12/09 and be completed along with new equipment installation by 12/20/09.  The installation of Security, Telephone and Computer equipment and systems will be completed by 12/20/09.  These systems will be debugged and fully operational by 1/6/10.

·         Faculty and Staff returning to Barnes Hall from Hines Hall will be relocated (including furniture in storage) starting 11/12/09.  The relocation will be completed by 1/8/10.

·         Barnes Hall will be functional for Students at the start of the Spring Semester in January 2010.

Project Scope: This project addresses the renovation of existing lab to new sensory evaluation lab.  The lab will include kitchen equipment, large freezers, and coolers, ice machine.  Two stoves and a fryer, a ventilation hood, dishwasher, microwave ovens and computerized data entry booths.  

·         We met with Dr. Wray and the Designer for preliminary stages of the project.

·         Designer asked to provide preliminary drawings within a week. 

·         Designer to submit DD to Owner at 9:00 am 05/08/08. 

·         DD drawings submitted to owners and approved.  CD drawings are underway.

·         7.29.2008:

·         Bids were received.

·         Lowest bidder has been chosen. Package has been forwarded to Dr. McKinnie for funding thru the department.

·         Demolition complete; framing has started.

·         Project is about 35% complete. 

·         Project is about 60% complete. HVAC rough-in complete; electrical rough-in complete; drywalls installed; plumbing rough-in complete. Project is on schedule.

Project Scope: This project will improve emergency laboratories and testing facilities.  The existing facility is in poor condition.  The project will include window replacement, installation of central air conditioning, system, upgrading the heating system and elevator addition for ADA accessibility, and an elevator.

·         Above ceiling inspection are complete on floors 3 and 2.  Above ceiling inspection for 1st floor scheduled for next week.

·         Site work is roughly 85% complete.  Paving walks and fine grading remain.

Project Scope: This project will provide facilities for student aerobics, weight training, and wellness programs. Fitness and wellness facilities, essential for enrollment growth and student activities, currently are not available on campus.

 

·         The project was substantial completed and the benefit of occupancy was issued by the State Construction office on July 30th  2008.

·         The facility has been in operation ever since September 2008.

·         The construction phase was closed and the closing document received on March 15, 2009.

Project Scope: The project involves the replacement of the existing fire alarm system and the installation of a new automatic sprinkler system throughout the building.

·         Successful bidder was Barnes & Powell Electric Company Inc. with $ 235,620.00.

·         Contracts executed by the University.

·         Mobilization and Demolition of existing fire alarm will begin 5/11/09

·         Alternate 1: Core drilling into Marrow Hall Mechanical room for the new 6” DI sprinkler is scheduled for June 30th, 2009

·         HGI conducted 100% pressure test of the sprinkler system and  100% test of the fire alarm system on July 17th, 2009

·         Final inspection was held July 31st,  2009 at which time project was accepted.

Project Scope: The New General Academic Classroom Facility will provide a modern educational facility that will meet the growing demand of higher education at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.  The building (72,000 sq. ft.) will support the expanded programs in the School of Business & Economics and the College of Arts & Sciences, Education, Engineering, Nursing, Technology, and University Studies.   It will consist of medium/large lecture rooms, tiered classrooms, teaching laboratories and offices for full/part time faculties

·         OC-25 was approved on 9/7/06 by NC Department of Administration, advertised in August 2006, A/E firms interviewed on 9/20/06. The Freelon Group was selected as A/E firm in  December  2006. 

·         The first program committee meeting was held on 10/30/06and the programming was completed on 03/09/07.

 

·         The project was advertised on 3/8/09, pre-bid meeting was held on 3/19/09. Bids opened on April 9, 2009, awarded to D. H. Griffin Construction on May 6 with the Notice to Proceed on June 11th 2009.

 

·         The construction work is progressing as scheduled. All footing and waterproofing of foundation completed; utility work is 80% done; installation of CMU for the Utility Room is completed; slab on grade on certain classroom is finished and steel erection work is on-going.

 

·         Plumbing rough-in is 80% and electrical rough-in is 30% done;

 

·         The whole project team (architects/engineers/owner and the general contractor) are working collaboratively as a team to ensure the success of this project

 

·         An Audio Visual meeting is scheduled for 10/2/09 to update The Executive Board Members.

Project Scope: This project will provide a comprehensive renovation to Harrison Auditorium.  It will address plumbing, mechanical, electrical and ADA issues.  The interior will be remodeled.

 

·         Final inspection was 09/20/06. 

·         The final testing of the A/V system by the designer was completed on 5/23/07.

·         The contractor has completed the A/V system punch list and is preparing the as-built drawings for the designer’s review.

·         A proposal was received from Thorburn Associates to perform the design work for the speaker upgrade.  This will be presented to Dr. Welborne on 08/29/07.

·         The designer (The Freelon Group) has finished the as-built drawings and will submit the closeout package in September.

·         The closeout documentation was returned to the designer for corrections on 01/02/08.  The corrected closeout documentation has been received.

·         A bid opening for the speaker upgrade was held on 5/12/08.  The apparent low bidder was Davidson Audiovisual with a bid of $107,149.   This bid was declared unresponsive by the designer and the next low bidder, One Source Building Technologies was selected. Their bid was $130,930.

·         The As-built drawings were received on 5/13/08.

Project Scope: Project will provide a new facility for the School of Education.  The facility will house classrooms, faculty offices, other student, and faculty areas.

 

  • Construction completion was 07/14/08.  Final inspection by SCO was held on 07/17/08.  Furniture installation started 07/18/08 and was completed by 08/18/08; the last (10%) was received and installed 10/08/08.  
  • Faculty and staff relocated from Hodgin Hall and other locations between 08/04/08 and 08/13/08. Telephones in NEB made live 08/04/08 pm.  Keying of all doors completed 07/30/08.  Facility fully functional for classes 8/1/08.
  • The AV package was approved by SCO 09/12/08.
  • Micro Tech, successor to SIGCOM (successful AV Bidder was not able to satisfy need for a licensed person and more favorable economic climate for bidding, Freelon recommended rebidding the AV Portion of the project.
  • Advertise for bids in newspapers on 11/23/08 and GA website 11/26/08.  Pre bid was 12/02/08 with bids were received 12/18/08@3 PM
  • After rebidding the contract and opening bids on 12-18-09 Freelon recommended contract award  01/16/09.  Contract award was delivered to SCO 01/30/09. 
  • SCO issued contract approval 05-09.  Notice to Proceed adjusted to 05/13/09.  Installation was complete and fully functional by 08/14/09.  Final AV System inspection and completiondue by 12/30/09 with total project close out by 1/31/10.
  • Final Warranty items on construction portion  taken care of and were finished by the end of the warranty period 07/16/09 or allowed to be carried forward until they are finished to the Owner’s satisfaction.  The majority of these items were completed by 7/8/09.

Project Scope: This project involves the renovation of the animal science area and infrastructure of the building.  Upon completion, a new chiller and hot water system shall be installed.  The animal science area will receive new air handling units that will provide proper air exchange, and new air systems (ductwork, VAV boxes, etc.) to provide and control sufficient amounts of air.

·         Budget allocation has been approved. Designer is in the process of preparing documents to send out for bid.  Small loose items to work out with the animal lab on time frame to locate animals and for how long.

·         All new windows have been installed and caulked, some tile repairs around bathroom windows remain to be done.

·         The electricity to the building is off while the new transformer is being installed.  DOI inspection of the new transformer is scheduled for 01/09/08.

·         Removal of existing handrails is in progress.

·         New handrail installation has begun on the sixth floor.

·         Balcony guardrail installation is complete.  Installation of stairwell handrails is incomplete.

·         Floor tile installations are in progress.

·         Fire alarm work is completed, with the exception of final testing.

·         Final above ceiling electrical inspection is completed for floors 5 & 6 with the exception of exhaust fans.  Floors 1 – 4 are in progress.

·         The courtyard floor has been repoured and the ramps at either end completed.

·         The final painting will be done by painters under the direction of the University paint shop. 

·         The SCO final inspection was held on 6/4/08.  The fire alarm system did not pass and it will be necessary to have another SCO inspection. 

·         The issues with the emergency lighting and fire alarm system have been resolved.  Final inspection by SCO performed on 07/30/08.  The building was accepted and we have beneficial occupancy.

·         Prior to closing out the project, the emergency lights will have to be replaced and re-inspected by SCO.  This is scheduled to be done by10/24/08.

·         The emergency lights were replaced, tested and accepted on 10/24/08.   

·         This project is in the closeout phase and will be closed by the first quarter of 2009.
